Labor Education for Graduating
Students (LEGS) is a program designed to provide graduating students with essential knowledge and skills related to the workforce and employment. The aim is to equip students with the tools and confidence they need to navigate the job market successfully and transition smoothly from academia to the workforce.
What I've learned in LEGS seminar:
Career Exploration, helping students explore different career paths, industries, and job opportunities based on their interests, skills, and values.
Professional Development: Offering workshops and resources to develop processional skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership.
Financial Literacy: educating students about financial management, including budgeting, saving, investing, and managing students loans.
Workplace Rights And Responsibilities: Informing students about their rights and responsibilities as employees, including labor laws, workplace policies, and ethical considerations.
Transition Support: Assisting students in transitioning from student life to the workforce, including managing the emotional and practical aspects of this change.
Entrepreneurship : Providing guidance and resources for students interested in starting their own businesses of pursuing entrepreneurial ventures, including business plan development, funding options, and legal considerations.
Networking: teaching students how to build and leverage professional networks, both online and offline, to explore career opportunities, gather insights, and connect with potential employers and mentors.
Workplace Diversity and Inclusion: Educating Students about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, including understanding biases, fostering an inclusive culture, and navigating diverse work environments.
Salary Negotiation: Equipping students with the knowledge and kills to negotiate salary and benefits packages confidently, including researching salary ranges, understanding negotiation tactics, and advocating for their worth.
Continuing Education and Skill Development: Encouraging students to pursue lifelong learning and skill development opportunities inducing certifications, workshops, seminars, and further education programs to stay competitive in their fields.
