History and its Origins


The Simballay Festival traces its origins to the indigenous tribes of Nabunturan, particularly the Mansakas and Mandayas, who have long inhabited the region. The word "Simballay" itself is derived from the native Mansaka language, symbolizing unity and harmony among the people.


Throughout the festival grounds, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Nabunturan through various exhibitions showcasing indigenous crafts, arts, and culinary delights. Apart from that, beauty pageants are a staple of Philippine festivals, and the Simballay Festival is no exception. Local beauties vie for the title of Miss Simballay, embodying grace, poise, and cultural pride.


As we enjoy the Simballay when it is December, we are so excited to enjoy what event and other activities may happened and also every barangay are representing their own small house to represent their own culture and their fruits that their barangay are rich for what their present and others are selling foods such as barbecue, milkshakes/milktea and other what they like. And the Simballay are making contest for the youth to participate what they like. And the local artists, entrepreneurs, and farmers showcase their products, generating income and promoting sustainable livelihoods.


In essence, the Simballay Festival is more than just a colorful spectacle—it is a celebration of identity, unity, and the enduring spirit of the people of Nabunturan. As it continues to evolve and grow, this annual event remains a testament to the rich tapestry of cultures that define the Philippines.
